    ABOUT RIVER

The RIVER Project is a World Bank-financed initiative implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) of the Government of Bangladesh. Under this project, 500 government primary schools located in 78 upazilas across 14 of the country’s most flood-prone districts are being developed as multi-purpose flood shelters. Beyond infrastructure development, the project also focuses on building climate-resilient communities within a 1.5 km radius of each school.

    ABOUT CEMRCB

CEMRCB is one of the key and vital components of the RIVER Project. The project engages each of the 500 government primary schools (GPS) across 78 upazilas in 14 districts as a community hub, linking the construction of safe shelters with community participation and capacity-building activities. CEMRCB believes that disaster resilience is not just about infrastructure — it’s about people. Its approach places communities at the center of disaster risk reduction, empowering them to lead their own preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
