Training & Capacity Building

Strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience across communities

1. Introduction

Training and capacity building are core pillars of the CEMRCB component of the RIVER Project, designed to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience at every level of the community. Floods and other disasters not only disrupt lives but also affect education, livelihoods, and community safety. To address these challenges, the project emphasizes systematic knowledge sharing and skill development, ensuring that communities are better prepared to face future risks.

The training activities target a wide range of stakeholders including Upazila officials, Union Disaster Management Committees (UDMCs), School Management Committees (SMCs), school children, local NGOs, and women and youth groups. By equipping these groups with practical knowledge and hands-on skills, the project promotes inclusive participation and strengthens coordination among institutions and communities.

Ultimately, training and capacity building under the CEMRCB component of the RIVER Project contribute directly to resilience building, effective disaster preparedness, and community empowerment. It ensures that individuals and institutions are not only aware of potential hazards but are also capable of taking proactive, coordinated actions to protect lives, assets, and future opportunities.

2. Overview

Training and capacity building are key activities of the CEMRCB component. By equipping individuals, communities, and institutions with the right knowledge and skills, the project ensures stronger preparedness, effective response, and sustainable resilience against disasters, particularly floods, and climate change challenges.
